Real Madrid midfielder Brahim Diaz made headlines last night after his dramatic matchwinning goal against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie.
The 24-year-old Morocco international struck in the second half, securing a 2-1 victory for his team and igniting a passionate celebration that included a confrontational moment with Atletico’s coach, Diego Simeone.
Following his goal, Diaz sprinted towards the Atletico dugout, where he directed a pointed message at Simeone.
“Speak now, speak now, speak now! You spoke yesterday, speak now!” he shouted, referencing the Argentine’s pre-match comments during a press conference.
Simeone had declared his expectations for the central midfield lineup, which included Eduardo Camavinga, Luka Modrić, and Aurelien Tchouaméni, while expressing skepticism about Diaz’s potential inclusion in the match.
“I expect a central midfield of (Eduardo) Camavinga, (Luka) Modrić and (Aurelien) Tchouaméni.
“There is also the possibility with Brahim? I don’t think so …”
