Ousseynou Diao has signed for Spanish third-tier side Juventud Torremolinos, days after parting ways with Real Betis.
The Spanish-Senegalese forward, whose contract with Betis was terminated earlier this week, was officially unveiled by the Group II club on Wednesday.
His move marks the start of a new chapter in his career after a challenging spell with the La Liga outfit.
Diao, known for his versatility in attacking positions, joined Betis in February 2024 following earlier spells at the youth academies of Badajoz and Cádiz.
His arrival was seen as a promising addition to the club’s development system, and he quickly made an impression within the youth ranks. Despite this early promise, the 22-year-old struggled to break into Betis’ senior squad on a consistent basis.
At Juventud Torremolinos, Diao will be hoping for regular playing time and the opportunity to relaunch his career in competitive football.
The Spanish third division is often viewed as a proving ground for young players looking to showcase their potential and secure a pathway back to the top levels of Spanish football.
For the forward, it represents a chance to regain momentum and demonstrate the ability that once made him a highly regarded prospect.
The move also highlights Juventud Torremolinos’ ambition to strengthen their squad with young talent capable of making an immediate impact.
The club, competing in a highly competitive group, is aiming to climb the ranks in the coming season, and Diao’s arrival is seen as a significant boost to their attacking options.
Supporters of Juventud Torremolinos are expected to welcome the addition of a player with experience at an established La Liga club, even if his time at Betis did not yield the breakthrough many had anticipated.
For Diao, the transition offers the chance to play in a less pressurised environment, one where his development and consistency will be tested week after week.
The Spanish-Senegalese forward’s career has already been marked by persistence and adaptation. Having trained in multiple youth academies and faced setbacks in his pursuit of first-team football, his decision to move to Torremolinos reflects a desire to rebuild and reassert himself in the professional game.
While the road back to Spain’s top tiers remains a challenge, Diao’s signing could prove mutually beneficial. Juventud Terremolinos gain a versatile and motivated attacker, while Diao himself gets a platform to revive his career with regular competitive football.
The coming months will reveal whether this fresh start can unlock the potential that has followed him since his youth academy days.
