Spain international of Moroccan descent Lamine Yamal has bagged another top award following for his outstanding performance for Barcelona.
Yamal has been outstanding since breaking into the Barcelona senior team back in 2023 under then manager Xavi. His impressive performance for club and country earned him the FIFA Young Player of the Year award.
The 17-year-old winger’s top-class performance did not go unnoticed, winning the Breakthrough of the Year prize at the annual Laureus Awards ceremony, held in Madrid.
Yamal, who also has Equatorial Guinea root beat off competition from Bayer Leverkusen, basketball player Victor Wembanyama, and swimmer Summer McIntosh.
The highly-rated attacker became the 2024 European champion with the Spanish national team, being a key player in the tournament.
He is currently one of Barcelona’s top players, as the club battle for several titles this season. Barcelona are on top of the La Liga table with six matches to end the season and are also in the finals of the Copa del Rey as well as Champions League semifinals.
