Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has identified Liverpool as the primary contenders for this season’s UEFA Champions League title, citing the Reds’ dominant group-stage performance as a key factor.
The 17-year-old Spanish international, who was born in Spain to a Moroccan father and Equatorial Guinean mother, expressed confidence in Barcelona’s ability to compete but acknowledged Liverpool’s edge after they topped their group.
“It depends on us. In the Champions League, only one team is more of a favourite than us—Liverpool—because they finished first in their group.
“In La Liga, we are leading. If we keep winning, everything becomes easier,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
Yamal’s remarks come as Barcelona remains in contention for multiple trophies, including La Liga and the Copa del Rey.
The teenager, who has already netted two goals and two assists in this season’s Champions League, emphasized the team’s ambition: “Between La Liga and the Champions League, if we can win both, we will go for both. I have no preference.”
