Atletico Madrid have expressed interest to sign Senegal and Strasbourg captain Habib Diarra in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The Spanish giants are keen on strengthening their squad for the upcoming campaign, and the 2-1year-old, who is the captain of the French Ligue 1 outfit has emerged as a priority target following an impressive performance last term.
Diarra made 33 appearances across competitions for Strasbourg in the recently concluded campaign, scoring four goals and providing five assists in the process.
Atletico Madrid have already initiated contact for the acquisition of the 21-year-old midfielder this summer, with English sides also reportedly interested.
The transfer of Diarra could surpass €25m. While Strasbourg will compete in next year’s UEFA Conference League, a move to the Spanish capital would allow Diarra the opportunity to play UEFA Champions League football.
Diarra has made 102 appearances for Strasbourg in midfield. The 2024-25 campaign was the most successful of Diarra’s emerging career – he finished with four goals and five assists in Ligue 1.
Diarra also has 11 international appearances for Senegal. Having come through the French international youth system, Diarra switched to represent his birth nation, Senegal, in March 2024. Most recently, he scored as Senegal became the first African side to beat England, earning a 3-1 victory earlier this month.
