Rafael Lausanne, president of the Spanish Football Federation has thrown his weight behind Lamine Yamal to win the Ballon d’Or award following an explosive campaign.
Yamal, who has Morocco and Equatorial Guinea root delivered an outstanding performance when Spain defeated France 5-4 to reach the finals of the UEFA Nations League.
The 17-year-old winger netted twice as Spain triumphed over France in the semifinals to ste up a tie against Portugal in the finals.
Lausanne has, however, expressed his great admiration for Yamal, stressing that he deserves to win the Ballon d’Or, given his impressive performances for club and country.
“I think it’s clear to everyone, not just because of the two goals he scored, but because of the fantastic performance he had by all standards” he told Spanish channel RTVE
“Every touch from Yamal dazzles everyone. He has established himself as a great player despite his young age. I hope he is awarded the Ballon d’Or, he truly deserves it,” he stressed.
The teenage sensation was recently adjudged as the La Liga Young Player of the Season following his impressive performance.
Yamal racked up 18 goals and provided 25 assists in 55 appearances in the just ended season.
