Southampton consider Aster Vranckx move as Wolfsburg midfielder faces Championship interest

Aster Vranckx, the Belgian-DR Congo midfielder at Wolfsburg, is the subject of a rumoured move to Southampton in the Championship.

The 23-year-old has yet to make an appearance for Wolfsburg this season, with the club having played two league matches in the 2. Bundesliga and one DFB-Pokal fixture. His limited involvement comes after returning to Germany from a season-long loan at Italian club Sassuolo.

Vranckx joined Wolfsburg from Belgian side KV Mechelen in July 2021 for a reported €8m. He subsequently spent the 2022-23 campaign on loan at AC Milan before returning to the German club.

The central midfielder is under contract with Wolfsburg until June 2029, meaning any move would require Southampton to negotiate a permanent transfer rather than wait for his deal to expire. His current market value is listed at €5m.

Vranckx has previously played in Germany’s second tier with Wolfsburg and is now linked with a Southampton side competing in the Championship. There is no indication that an agreement has been reached, with the proposed move remaining at the rumour stage.
