South African sensation Hildah Magaia has made a compelling move to Mexico, where she is set to join Mazatán FC from Sejong Sportstoto (F). The dynamic forward, renowned for her prowess on the pitch, is poised to bring her formidable skills to the Western Mexican club.
Mazatán FC, in an official statement shared on their Twitter account, extended a warm welcome to Magaia, expressing pride in her arrival.
The club’s statement read, “…And now it is time to show the great pride of being from Mazatlán. Welcome, Hildah Magaia!”
This move places Magaia alongside fellow South African footballers Jermaine Seoposenwe, Thembi Kgatlana, and Sinxolo Cesane, who have also found their sporting homes in the vibrant football landscape of Mexico.
Hildah Magaia’s professional journey began with the University of Pretoria Women in 2016, followed by three fruitful years with TUT Ladies FC. However, it was in 2018 that she experienced a turning point in her career, scoring an impressive 11 goals in 16 games and solidifying her place in the national team, Banyana Banyana.
After a stint with Möron BK, where she showcased her scoring prowess with 13 goals in 25 matches, Magaia’s talent caught the attention of Chinese club Sejong Sportstoto in 2022. During her tenure, she notched up 12 goals in 37 league matches.
Magaia’s transfer to Mazatán FC is expected to inject energy and efficiency into the club’s attacking lineup.
Currently positioned 10th in the local championship, Mazatán FC has struggled to find the net, with only 6 goals in 17 matches in the Primera Division.
At 29, Magaia recently showcased her skills on the global stage, participating in the 2023 Women’s World Cup and emerging as her team’s top scorer with two goals before reaching the round of 16.
Adding to her list of accolades, Magaia was part of the championship-winning South African team at the 2022 African Cup and earned a nomination for the coveted title of African Player of the Year 2023 by CAF.
As she embarks on this new chapter in Mexico, football enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the impact and contributions Hildah Magaia will make to Mazatán FC.
