South African coach Manqoba Mngqithi leaves Golden Arrows as club line up Adnan Beganovic
Experienced South African coach Manqoba Mngqithi has parted ways with Lamontville Golden Arrows following the expiration of his short-term contract, bringing an end to a brief but steady spell in KwaZulu-Natal.
Mngqithi, who signed a one-season deal, completed his stint with the club last weekend as his contract came to a natural close. His departure marks the end of a return to club management for a coach widely respected within South African football circles for his tactical discipline and developmental influence.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns assistant and head coach is best known for his role in one of the most successful eras in the club’s history, including their 2016 CAF Champions League triumph, where he formed part of the technical leadership that guided the team to continental glory in the CAF Champions League.
At Golden Arrows, Mngqithi steadied the side and ensured a competitive league campaign. Under his guidance, the team secured a respectable sixth-place finish in the top flight and qualified for next season’s MTN8 competition, a significant achievement that reflected consistency and structure in his short tenure.
While his departure was expected due to the nature of his contract, sources suggest both parties parted on good terms, with appreciation for the stability and direction he brought during the season.
Attention at Arrows has now swiftly turned toward succession planning, with the club reportedly in advanced talks to appoint Bosnian coach Adnan Beganović as the new head coach.
Beganović recently left TS Galaxy following a difficult run of results that culminated in his exit shortly before the Nedbank Cup final, which Galaxy ultimately lost under the interim leadership of Bernard Parker.
Despite his recent struggles, Beganović remains highly regarded for his tactical approach and rebuilding capabilities, and Golden Arrows are believed to see him as a long-term project coach capable of continuing the stability established under Mngqithi.
Negotiations between the two parties are said to be at an advanced stage, with an official announcement expected soon. If completed, the appointment would mark a new chapter for Arrows as they aim to build on their top-eight finish and push for greater consistency in the upcoming season.
For now, Golden Arrows face a period of transition, bidding farewell to a familiar and experienced figure while preparing to usher in a new era under potentially fresh leadership.
