South African coach Manqoba Mngqithi has given reasons for making a return to Golden Arrows.
The 53-year-old recently joined Golden Arrows after exiting Mamelodi Sundowns in December 2025 despite a good start to the campaign.
Manqoba Mngqithi secured the move after just three-month absence following his departure from Sundowns.
He was linked with several clubs but opted to rejoin Golden Arrows, who offered him an invaluable opportunity to lead the club back in 2007 at age 36.
“Initially, I wanted to take a long break after over a decade of non-stop work. My years at Sundowns were incredibly demanding, and I felt I needed at least two months to recharge. I even left Johannesburg and Durban to go straight to the village, just to disconnect from everything. That time away helped me regain my energy and focus.”
He added, “While I was exploring opportunities abroad, Sis’ Mato Madlala reached out and asked me to return to Golden Arrows. I didn’t hesitate because she knows I always prioritize this team.”
The 53-year-old coach emphasized that his loyalty to Golden Arrows goes beyond his personal ambitions. “I am deeply grateful to this team. They gave me an invaluable opportunity when they appointed me as head coach for the first time, and that’s something I’ll never forget. I owe so much to Sis’ Mato and her late brother, Rocky. When she asked for my help, I felt it was my duty to be there, even if it meant putting other plans on hold.”
