Mamelodi Sundowns captain Ronwen Williams has expressed strong confidence in his team’s ability to progress from Group F at the upcoming 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, insisting the squad is well-prepared for the challenge.
Drawn alongside Borussia Dortmund, Fluminense and Ulsan Hyundai, Sundowns know they must be at their best to advance.
Williams said: “We believe we have enough resources to get out of the group, which will be huge for the club. If you look at the squad, there are some big names and it’s going to be a tough situation, but we believe we can pull through. We want to show others who Sundowns are in the competition.”
He underlined the club’s determination to recover quickly after their recent CAF Champions League final defeat to Pyramids, saying: “We have to get back up. No one will do it for us.” Williams’ words underline the team’s resolve as they prepare to face some of the world’s top clubs in the United States.
Founded on their domestic dominance—Sundowns have claimed eight straight Premier Soccer League titles—and continental pedigree, Williams emphasised that their inclusion among global football powerhouses is not just symbolic but a platform to compete.
Their group rivals offer varying challenges: Dortmund bring Bundesliga pedigree, Fluminense are Copa Libertadores finalists, and Ulsan are South Korea’s champions .
The tournament, which runs from 15 June to 13 July, grants global exposure and the chance to test the squad’s quality on a world stage .
For Williams and Sundowns, it’s a chance not only to compete but to represent African club football with pride.
Group F:
- Borussia Dortmund – European power
