South Africa legend Neil Tovey gives Benin zero chance to beat Nigeria in final World Cup qualifier

South Africa legend Neil Tovey has downplayed Benin chances of beating Nigeria in Uyo in the final 2026 World Cup qualifier.

In a high-stake clash on Tuesday, the Super Eagles will play host to Benin, with both teams yearning for maximum points to better their chances of securing qualification to the global showpiece on final day.

Currently, Benin sit top of Group C, needing a win to confirm their place for the biggest soccer mundial to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico next year.

Nigeria, on the other hand, will have to secure victory over Benin and await the outcome of the South Africa’s encounter with Rwanda to determine their fate for qualification.

However, Neil Tovey, who captained South Africa to annex the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations title has shot down any hopes of a Benin win over Nigeria in Uyo.

Tovey insists Benin cannot upset against Nigeria, which a win would see them seal their place in USA, Canada and Mexico spectacle.

“Benin have absolutely no chance of beating Nigeria in Nigeria. Nothing! Not a chance in hell,” Tovey said, according Pan-Africa Football via FarPost.

Tovey added that Bafana’s focus must remain in the four corners of Mbombela Stadium where they will be facing Rwanda and leave out the noise of events happening outside the Mpumalanga venue.

“Don’t think about what’s happening elsewhere,” the 52-year-old said.

“Ask the players if they want to play in the World Cup, because this is it. They’re 90 minutes away from making history,” he concluded.
