Sofyan Amrabat, the Moroccan midfielder, expressed his satisfaction after delivering an impressive performance during Manchester United’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Newcastle on Wednesday, May 15.
Having secured a spot in the starting lineup for the second consecutive match under the guidance of manager Ten Hag, Amrabat showcased his capabilities on the field, despite admitting that he is not yet at the peak of his form.
“I’m happy with the victory, that’s the most important thing. This is still not a Sofyan Amrabat at his best.
This is my second match in 4-5 months that I’ve played 90 minutes, so I’m not 100%, which is normal. I’m happy to have played well,” stated the midfielder.
Reflecting on his journey to reclaiming a starting role, the former Fiorentina player emphasized the importance of patience and readiness to contribute to the team’s success whenever called upon.
“It wasn’t easy, because everyone wants to play. I had to be patient, but I was ready for the team whether it was for one or ten minutes. I always do my best.
It may be a little late, but I’m happy to have had my chance,” Amrabat added.
Amrabat’s solid performance against Newcastle bodes well for the Moroccan national team’s upcoming fixtures in June against Zambia and Congo.
With national coach Walid Regragui seeking players in good form, especially in midfield where Amrabat operates, the midfielder’s contribution could be crucial in the team’s quest to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
