Sochaux officially announced the resignation of Eric Hély on Thursday. Following their defeat to Guingamp (5-1) on Wednesday, Sochaux finds themselves in the last position in Ligue 1. The club is now in a hurry to move on from Hély in hopes of improving their standing.
Before the 8th-day match against Valenciennes on Saturday, the club is considering giving an opportunity to a French coach who hasn’t worked in Ligue 1 yet. Luiz Fernandez is reportedly the leading candidate, according to Est Républicain. Another source suggests that Hervé Renard, the coach of Zambia, is also in contention for the position. Renard, who won the 2012 African Cup of Nations with Zambia, might be given the opportunity to coach in Ligue 1.
Eric Hély resigned after Sochaux’s poor performance against Guingamp (5-1). The team has yet to win a match in Ligue 1 after seven rounds, having only two points on the board.
Eric Hély is the first Ligue 1 coach to step down this season.
