Mohamed Salah's Liverpool farewell

Trent Alexander-Arnold has joined more than ten current and former Liverpool FC players in liking Mohamed Salah’s viral Instagram post, intensifying scrutiny on Arne Slot’s position at the club.

The collective engagement has fuelled speculation of growing unrest within the dressing room after a damaging defeat to Aston Villa, with the Dutch manager now under increasing pressure as the season nears its conclusion.

Salah’s statement following Liverpool’s damning defeat to Aston Villa went viral as he ripped apart the club before his departure this summer.

The winger tore into the poor tactics used by Slot which have led to the side failing to defend their title and struggling to obtain Champions League football this season.

“Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve,” he said.

“I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies. That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good”.

The post has generated well over 1M likes, with Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Ibrahima Konaté, Andy Robertson, Wataru Endo, Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni, Milos Kerkez and Curtis Jones among those reacting.

Ekitike commented a handshake emoji, while Jones added an applause emoji. Also youngsters Stefan Bajcetic, Calvin Ramsay and Rhys Williams also joined in.

The collective reaction has intensified talk that Arne Slot is losing the dressing room at Liverpool FC, with the club’s Champions League hopes now hanging in the balance.

Liverpool may need to beat Brentford on the final day of the season to secure qualification, a scenario far removed from pre-season expectations and the club’s traditional standards.

Real Madrid star Alexander-Arnold’s involvement in liking the post has further amplified debate over unity at the club as pressure mounts on the manager.
