Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has credited manager Arne Slot’s approach for revitalizing his form and pushing the team to Premier League glory this season.
Salah, a critical figure in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign, revealed that Slot’s style resonated with him more than the methods of former boss Jurgen Klopp, under whom he had achieved significant success.
Reflecting on his early interactions with Slot, Salah told L’Equipe that the Dutch coach’s emphasis on responsibility and leadership appealed to him.
“In preseason, Arne came to see me and asked me to be an example for the other players,” he recalled.
“I told him not to worry because I’m always at my best, not to set an example but because I’m like that. He told me what he expected of me in the game, with a lot of responsibilities in the animation, I liked that.”
Salah acknowledged that the final years under Klopp, despite their success, lacked a certain competitive edge, something he feels Slot has reintroduced at Anfield.
“Arne is very direct, he brought the competition back into play, whereas with Jurgen we were perhaps a little too much in our comfort zone towards the end,” Salah said.
The Egyptian forward also highlighted the significance of the club’s recent triumph, particularly given the absence of several key figures from the squad that secured the 2020 title.
“I was telling Virgil (van Dijk) that, without taking credit away from anyone, winning the league without Jurgen, ‘Bobby’, Sadio, ‘Hendo’ (Jordan Henderson) and all the 2020 teammates was even more special because we have a group of very good players, but most of them had never won before. It’s gratifying,” Salah added.
