ES Mostaganem has officially named Slimane Rahou as their new head coach, just days after parting ways with Cherif Hadjar. The announcement was made on Friday, with Rahou set to take charge of the team during their upcoming Ligue 1 Mobilis clash against Magra on Saturday.
Coaching Experience and Background
Rahou, 49, brings extensive experience as both a player and a coach.
A former right-back, he enjoyed a distinguished playing career with clubs such as ASM Oran, MC Oran, JS Kabylie, ES Sétif, and French side Noisy-le-Sec.
He also represented Algeria at the U23 level and earned 48 senior international caps between 1998 and 2010.
After retiring as a player, Rahou pursued coaching in France, earning a UEFA A coaching license through the French Football Federation (FFF).
He has since built a reputation as a skilled tactician, serving as an assistant coach to Franck Dumas at prominent clubs including CR Belouizdad, ES Sétif, and DR Congo’s TP Mazembe.
His expertise in African football and strong interpersonal skills earned him high praise from Dumas and others in the footballing world.
The appointment marks Rahou’s first role as head coach in Algeria, though he was linked with several clubs during the off-season, including MCEB and JSS.
Strengthening the Coaching Staff
To bolster the team’s preparations, ES Mostaganem also announced the arrival of fitness coach Rudolphe Duvernet.
Duvernet, who previously worked with Rahou at TP Mazembe, will oversee the physical conditioning of the squad as they aim to improve their standing in the league.
A Fresh Start for ES Mostaganem
Rahou steps into the role at a pivotal moment for ES Mostaganem. The team currently sits in Ligue 1 Mobilis, striving to regain form and climb the standings.
With his wealth of experience and a proven track record in African football, Rahou is expected to bring a new dynamic to the team.
This appointment is seen as an opportunity for both Rahou and ES Mostaganem to chart a path toward greater success, starting with the challenging away match against Magra.
Fans will be eager to see how the new coach and his staff reshape the team’s fortunes in the coming weeks.
