Skelly Alvero misses Werder Bremen training camp through illness

Skelly Alvero’s difficult spell at Werder Bremen continues, with the midfielder now ruled out of the club’s pre‑season training camp in the Zillertal region of Austria.

Having already missed recent full‑squad sessions due to illness, the 24‑year‑old will not travel with the 29‑man group named by head coach Daniel Thioune.

Instead, Alvero remains in Bremen to recover, leaving him further behind his teammates at a key stage of preparation for the new season. His absence underlines how far he currently is from forcing his way back into Thioune’s plans, especially after a 2025/26 campaign with only limited appearances.

There is, however, some brighter news for Werder in the medical department. After long‑term injuries, Mitchell Weiser and Julián Malatini are expected to be partially reintegrated into team training over the course of the camp, gradually increasing their workload.

During their stay in Austria, Werder will also sharpen their match fitness with friendlies against Fagiano Okayama on 22 July and VfL Bochum on 25 July. For Alvero, watching from afar, the missed opportunity to impress at close quarters may fuel further speculation about his future at the club.
