Simba players from Tanzania were rewarded with an immediate financial bonus on the pitch following their 6-0 victory over Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy on Saturday, concluding the group stage of the African Champions League.
The official Simba club page posted a series of images showing the Tanzanian team receiving a financial reward from Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan after securing a spot in the Champions League quarter-finals.
The Minister of Sports, Damas Ndumbaro, was present at the stadium on behalf of the presidency and went into the locker rooms after the match to celebrate with the players, carrying a large bag filled with bonuses.
The total amount awarded to Simba players amounted to 500 million Tanzanian shillings, equivalent to $197,000.
ASEC from Ivory Coast topped Group B standings, followed by Simba in second place.
Wydad Casablanca finished third in the group with 9 points, bidding farewell to the tournament alongside Jwaneng Galaxy.
