Sikhosonke Langa set to leave Kruger United for Orbit College

Sikhosonke Langa is on the verge of joining Orbit College, less than a month after Kruger United announced the defender as one of their new signings.

Langa was confirmed as a Kruger United player on 19 July, but has now left the club and is expected to continue his career with Orbit College, who compete in the second-tier Motsepe Foundation Championship.

His move emerged after he was spotted at Orbit College. Further enquiries established that the defender was close to joining the North West club, although the transfer had not been formally confirmed at the time of the report.

Langa was unavailable for comment, but Kruger United sporting director Elasto Kapowedza confirmed that the player had departed after attending an assessment with Orbit.

“He was actually here for an assessment. He has decided to join Orbit,” said Kapowedza.

Kapowedza said Orbit had maintained contact with Langa before the player opted to leave Kruger United.

“As far as I understand it, Orbit kept calling, and he decided to join them. He gave us his reasons, and we accepted that,” he added.

Langa’s expected move to Orbit brings a short spell with Kruger United to an end. The club had presented him as a new arrival on 19 July, but he will now look to continue his career in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The defender previously played for University of Pretoria before joining Sekhukhune United, where he was part of the squad known as Babina Noko.

He made 11 appearances for Sekhukhune United during the past season. The club subsequently released him, allowing him to seek a new opportunity.

Orbit College’s interest means Langa could remain in South African professional football, with the North West-based side now preparing to add him to their squad. However, the report only confirms that he is on the verge of joining Orbit, rather than announcing that the transfer has been completed.

His departure also means Kruger United’s reported recruitment of Langa lasted only a matter of weeks. Kapowedza’s comments indicate that the player made the decision after discussions with Orbit and that Kruger United accepted his reasons for leaving.

Langa’s next step follows a season in which he featured 11 times for Sekhukhune United before being released. He will now await the completion of his proposed move to Orbit College after being seen at the club and undergoing an assessment.
