Ibrahim Kargbo has completed a move to Belarusian club BATE Borisov, with the 25-year-old Sierra Leonean striker set to begin a new chapter in his career.
Football Journey Shaped by Family and Early Moves
Born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Kargbo relocated to Europe at the age of eight, following in the footsteps of his father, Ibrahim Kargbo Sr., a former captain of the Sierra Leone national team who later acquired Belgian citizenship.
Growing up in Belgium, Kargbo developed his skills in the youth ranks of Beerschot in Antwerp, where he first demonstrated his potential as a promising forward.
In 2015, his father moved to England, and Kargbo followed, continuing his football education at Reading and later Crystal Palace. These formative years allowed him to refine his technique and gain experience in competitive youth football.
Professional Career Progression
Kargbo signed his first professional contract in 2018 with Belgian second-division club Roeselare, marking the beginning of his senior career.
The following year, in August 2019, he moved to Lierse, where he played in Belgium’s third tier. His performances caught the attention of clubs outside Belgium, ultimately leading to his latest move to Belarus.
A New Challenge in Belarus
BATE Borisov, one of Belarus’s most successful football clubs, has a strong reputation for competing in European tournaments, including the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.
Kargbo’s arrival is expected to bolster the club’s attacking options as they aim to reclaim domestic dominance and make an impact in European competitions.
The move represents a significant step in Kargbo’s career, offering him the opportunity to test himself in a new league and establish himself at a higher level.
His versatility and experience across different footballing systems could prove valuable to BATE Borisov as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
