Kai Kamara has officially signed with FC Cincinnati, marking another chapter in the veteran striker’s long and storied career in Major League Soccer.

The Sierra Leone international will join the Eastern Conference side for the remainder of the 2025 season, with an option to extend his stay through 2026.

The 39-year-old forward, who was without a club since departing Los Angeles FC at the start of the year, returns to FC Cincinnati in a bid to bolster the team’s attacking options.

His arrival has been met with anticipation by fans who are hopeful he can make a greater impact than during his previous stint with the club.

Kamara’s signing brings one of the most prolific scorers in MLS history back to the pitch. With 147 goals to his name, he stands as the second-highest all-time goal scorer in the league.

His experience across nearly two decades of North American football makes him an invaluable addition to Pat Noonan’s squad, both as a leader in the dressing room and a threat in front of goal.

Cincinnati’s decision to bring Kamara back was a strategic move. Known for his physical presence, aerial ability, and goal-scoring instincts, Kamara offers a level of experience and consistency that few players in the league can match.

He has represented 12 different clubs across MLS and other competitions in the Americas, demonstrating his adaptability and enduring quality.

Born in Sierra Leone and developed at Kallon FC—named after the country’s former footballing star Mohamed Kallon—Kamara’s journey from West Africa to becoming a household name in American soccer is well documented.

His longevity and goal-scoring prowess have made him a respected figure in both club and international football, where he has been a regular for the Sierra Leone national team, known as the Leone Stars.

During his most recent campaign with LAFC, Kamara featured in 40 matches across all competitions, scoring eight goals and playing a crucial role in the club’s run to the US Open Cup title.

While not as prolific as in his earlier years, his influence remained significant, particularly in high-pressure moments.

Now in Cincinnati’s orange and blue, Kamara is expected to provide depth, guidance, and an attacking boost as the club seeks to navigate the remainder of the 2025 season with ambition.

Head coach Pat Noonan highlighted Kamara’s leadership and professionalism, noting that his presence would be felt well beyond the pitch.

FC Cincinnati supporters are eager to see if Kamara can recapture the form that made him one of the most feared forwards in MLS history.

The expectation is that, even in the twilight of his career, Kamara’s experience, movement, and composure in the final third will make a tangible difference for the club’s playoff aspirations.

As Kamara prepares to don Cincinnati colours once again, his return serves as both a nostalgic reminder of his enduring legacy and a calculated investment in experience for a team aiming to strengthen its competitive edge in the league.

Whether starting matches or coming off the bench, his influence could prove vital in the months ahead.
