Arsenal great Ian Wright has condemned Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak for what he described as “shocking behaviour” amid an escalating transfer saga involving a potential £150 million move to Liverpool.
Isak, who was born in Sweden to Eritrean parents, is reported to have stopped training with Newcastle and made it clear he no longer wishes to play for the club.
Multiple outlets claim the 25-year-old is “adamant” about securing a move to Anfield before the transfer window closes.
Liverpool have been heavily linked with the striker and reportedly saw a British-record £120 million bid rejected earlier this summer.
Newcastle, however, remain firm in their stance, insisting they will only consider a sale if their £150m valuation is met.
Speaking on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast, Wright expressed disbelief at the player’s approach to forcing a transfer.
“It doesn’t look good. The behaviour? It’s kind of shocking. It’s shocking behaviour,” Wright said.
“I don’t know what’s happened with his agent, I don’t know if his agent hasn’t done the job properly – I don’t know what it is and if Liverpool were going to get him, go and pay the £150 million.”
The standoff has cast a shadow over Newcastle’s preparations for the new Premier League season, with Eddie Howe potentially facing the challenge of replacing his leading scorer.
