Shikabala urges Zamalek board to step aside if they cannot lead
Mahmoud Abdel Razek Shikabala, the former Zamalek captain, voiced deep sadness over the club’s deteriorating situation and openly criticised the current board.
In a televised interview, he said the daily stream of complaints and crises surrounding the White Castle has left him heartbroken as someone who grew up at the club and knows what it means to its fans.
Shikabala sent a direct and sharp message to the Zamalek directors, saying: “If you are not up to the responsibility and the demands of the Zamalek supporters, you must leave immediately. The current board received the biggest backing from the fans when it took charge.” He stressed that this support carries obligations that the board has failed to meet as the financial and sporting problems pile up.
He concluded by insisting that supporters are tired of “words and statements” and now want real action on the ground to rescue the club. His comments come at a critical moment, with Zamalek facing mounting financial crises that have already led to foreign players terminating contracts and FIFA warnings over unpaid dues to several players and coaches, further shaking the club’s stability.
