Manchester United youngster Chido Obi has received praise from former England captains Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer following his impactful cameo in the FA Cup match against Fulham.
The Nigerian forward was introduced late in the game and made an immediate impression by troubling Fulham’s defence with his movement and physical presence.
Rooney lauded the 19-year-old’s performance, highlighting his attacking instincts. “What I like about young Chido Obi is that he gets into good positions,” Rooney said.
“He’s still naive in some of his attempts but that’s encouraging for Manchester United. I’ve been really impressed with him.”
Shearer echoed Rooney’s sentiments while analysing the match on the BBC’s Match of the Day programme, noting how Obi unsettled Fulham’s centre-backs.
“He made life difficult for the defenders just by being there,” Shearer commented. “His presence alone caused problems, and that’s a great sign for such a young player.”
Obi’s performance adds to growing expectations around the promising forward, as he continues to push for more opportunities under manager Erik ten Hag.
