Shane Maroodza: Cardiff linked with move for FK Sarajevo defender

Cardiff City have been linked with a move for Zimbabwean-English centre-back Shane Maroodza, who currently plays for FK Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The 22-year-old left-footed defender has seen his stock rise in Sarajevo, with his market value increasing to 200,000 in recent updates as he establishes himself in the Premijer Liga. He wears the number 2 shirt for the Bosnian side and stands at 1.91m, offering significant height at the heart of defence.

Maroodza joined FK Sarajevos first team from their B side in October 2025, having initially arrived at the club earlier that season. His progression into the senior set-up has come quickly, following a series of moves that have taken him across several leagues in recent years.

Before heading to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Maroodza spent the 2025 calendar year moving through lower-league football in the British Isles, signing for Barnet in January 2025 and then joining Irish side Kerry Football Club in July of the same year. That spell followed his release from Huddersfield Towns under-21s in the summer of 2024.

The defender came through Huddersfields youth system after earlier spells with Leicester Citys youth ranks and non-league side Ossett United, gaining senior experience on loan at Bradford (Park Avenue) during the 2022-23 season. His development across English youth and lower-division football has contributed to his emergence as a potential option for a Championship club.

No deal has been agreed between FK Sarajevo and Cardiff, and at this stage the Welsh club are only being linked with a possible move for Maroodza.
