Seville, Spain – In a surprising turn of events, Sevilla FC’s winter recruit, Hannibal Mejbri, is set to be absent from the squad as they face Osasuna tomorrow evening at 6:30 p.m. The Tunisian international, who recently joined Sevilla on loan from Birmingham, has encountered a challenging adaptation to Andalusia.
Having played only five brief matches during the first part of the season and with a recent appearance of 29 minutes in the team’s encounter against Girona, Mejbri’s integration into the Sevilla lineup has faced setbacks.
His coach, Quique Sánchez Flores, revealed that the 21-year-old midfielder will not be included in the squad until further notice. Sánchez Flores emphasized the need to provide Mejbri with the necessary time to comprehend his new surroundings in Seville.
“After spending time with him, having spoken and having seen him for his first minutes in Girona, we are going to give him the necessary space so that he understands where he is, that he is in Seville and what that means,” clarified Sánchez Flores.
The coach highlighted the challenges faced by young players arriving at a prestigious club like Sevilla, indicating that Mejbri requires a learning period and an external perspective before being reintegrated into the squad.
“These are boys who arrive here and suddenly find themselves in a big club like Sevilla, under conditions of maximum demands.
They need to find their bearings. And they will perhaps realize it better with an outside point of view,” added Sánchez Flores, expressing confidence that Mejbri will eventually grasp the requirements and expectations.
While Mejbri’s current exclusion poses a setback for Sevilla, Sánchez Flores remains optimistic about the young midfielder’s potential understanding and subsequent contribution to the team.
Sevilla, currently positioned in the non-relegation zone, hopes for the swift return of Mejbri’s talents on the field as they navigate the challenges of the season.
