Sérigné Faye has been officially cleared of any wrongdoing in a license fraud case, following an investigation by the French Football Federation (FFF).
The FC Rouen 1899 striker had faced allegations concerning the validity of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC), but the FFF has found no grounds for further action.
The controversy began in early March when US Concarneau questioned the legitimacy of Faye’s registration after his transfer from Spanish club Granada in January.
The club filed a formal appeal, drawing attention to discrepancies surrounding Faye’s official documentation—specifically, his ITC and reported birth dates.
According to the publication Foot Amateur, Faye has previously been associated with two different identities.
One records his birth year as 2004 during his time at Montpellier (MHSC), while another, dating from his early career in Egypt, lists him as born in 1998.
The alleged dual identity cast doubt over the striker’s eligibility to compete in the French National Championship.
Faye’s performance since joining FC Rouen only intensified scrutiny.
He has featured in five matches, registering one goal and one assist—including a brace in a 4–3 win over Concarneau, the very club challenging his registration.
Despite the mounting attention and speculation, the French Football Federation ultimately dismissed Concarneau’s request for a formal hearing.
In a written statement, the FFF clarified: “The FFF’s Higher Appeals Committee has just informed us of its decision […] The committee has confirmed that there is no need for a hearing in this case.”
FC Rouen, which had faced the risk of disciplinary measures if the allegations were upheld, welcomed the ruling.
The club remained composed throughout the ordeal and can now proceed with its campaign without fear of sanctions.
However, the matter may not be entirely over. US Concarneau, unsatisfied with the decision, has vowed to pursue additional legal avenues.
In an official club statement, they declared: “US Concarneau, convinced of the justice of its position and the veracity of its statements, reserves the right to pursue all necessary legal remedies.”
For now, Sérigné Faye has been exonerated by the governing body and is free to continue playing for FC Rouen.
As the season progresses, attention will now turn to his performances on the pitch, even as the legal battle may yet continue off it.
