Serhou Guirassy, the runner-up for the African Player of the Year award at the CAF Awards 2024, is set to visit Guinea just days after his final match of the year with Borussia Dortmund.

The Guinean star will arrive in Conakry on Monday evening, as confirmed by the Guinean Football Federation (FGF) in an official statement.

The 28-year-old striker, who has earned 22 caps and scored nine goals for the Syli National, will touch down at Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport at 18:10 local time aboard an Air France flight.

Guirassy is expected to receive a warm welcome from Guinean officials, FGF representatives, local media, and a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters.

This marks Guirassy’s first visit to Guinea following his appearance at the African Ballon d’Or ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, where Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman of Atalanta claimed the prestigious title.

Guirassy, along with three other finalists—Simon Adingra (Ivory Coast, Brighton), Achraf Hakimi (Morocco, PSG), and Ronwen Williams (South Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns)—fell short in the highly competitive race.

The FGF announced that Guirassy’s visit is an opportunity for him to thank the Guinean people and national authorities for their unwavering support throughout his campaign for the coveted award.

“During his stay, Serhou Guirassy will express his gratitude to the people of Guinea and the authorities of our country for their relentless support throughout his race for the trophy of the Best African Player at the CAF Awards 2024,” the federation stated.

Following the ceremony in Marrakech, Guirassy took to social media to extend his appreciation to his supporters.

“Thank you for your unwavering support. I will continue to give my best for Guinea and inspire all young Guineans who dream big,” he shared.

He also addressed a critical comment from an online user, demonstrating his commitment to staying focused on his goals.

While the detailed itinerary of his stay has yet to be disclosed, Guirassy’s visit underscores his deep connection with his homeland.

It also serves as a moment for Guineans to celebrate one of their most accomplished athletes, who remains determined to represent his country with pride on the global stage.
