SERGE AURIER: THE IVORIAN, THE ONLY AFRICAN IN THE PLAYING ELEVEN OF THE SEASON IN LIGUE 1

During the UNFP Trophies ceremony in France on Sunday, the Ligue 1 Team of the Season was unveiled. While champions Paris Saint-Germain dominated the selection with six players, there was also representation from an African player.

Serge Aurier, the Ivorian defender from Toulouse Football Club, made the cut. He has been a standout performer this season, delivering consistent and high-quality displays. With 6 goals and 6 assists to his name, Aurier stands as the most productive defender across Europe’s top five leagues, catching the attention of several top clubs.

Speculation about his future has been rife, with Arsenal rumored to be his likely next destination, potentially replacing Bacary Sagna. However, Aurier remains focused on the upcoming World Cup with the Ivory Coast national team.

Aurier was also in contention for the “Best Promising Player” award of the season, but the accolade ultimately went to PSG’s Italian midfielder, Marco Verratti.
