Serge Aurier has been shining brightly since the beginning of the season, establishing himself as the most impactful defender in Europe. The 21-year-old Ivorian right-back has enjoyed a stellar campaign with Toulouse FC in Ligue 1, catching the attention of major European clubs’ scouts. His all-round abilities in defense, passing, and scoring have been lauded.
Now a prime target for top clubs across the continent, the Abidjan native is set on departing the French league in the upcoming summer transfer window. Speaking to L’Equipe, the Ivory Coast international expressed his preference for a move abroad over staying in Ligue 1.
“I believe it’s the right time to leave. I’ve gained immense confidence and feel ready to take on new challenges. While I have respect for France, remaining in Ligue 1 would feel like betraying Toulouse FC,” Aurier stated.
Having secured a verbal agreement with Toulouse president Olivier Sadran to facilitate his departure, Aurier is expected to have no shortage of suitors. The latest reports suggest that Arsenal has set their sights on the former Lens player. The Daily Mirror has revealed that Arsenal is closely monitoring Aurier as a potential replacement for Bacary Sagna, should he depart at the end of the season. Aurier is currently contracted with Toulouse until June 2018, with an estimated market value of €7 million.
