Tottenham Hotspur have ended a 41-year wait for European silverware by clinching the UEFA Europa League title, defeating Manchester United 1-0 in a tense all-English final.
African duo Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma played pivotal roles in the historic victory for the North London club.
Sarr, who represents Senegal at international level, was instrumental in the winning goal, delivering a pinpoint cross in the 42nd minute that allowed Brennan Johnson to slot home past Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana.
Mali midfielder Bissouma also featured prominently for Spurs, helping control the midfield battle against a possession-heavy United side that struggled to convert dominance into goals.
This triumph marks the first major club trophy for both Sarr and Bissouma. The victory is especially rewarding for Bissouma, who had seen his place in the Tottenham squad fluctuate during the season.
Once seemingly out of favour and tipped for a potential exit, the 28-year-old regained manager Ange Postecoglou’s confidence in the final stretch and delivered a composed performance on the big stage.
Sarr, meanwhile, has continued his steady rise since joining from Ligue 1 side FC Metz.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign, making 54 appearances across all competitions and contributing six goals and three assists.
His Europa League final performance underscored his maturity and growing influence within the Spurs midfield.
Tottenham’s victory not only hands them their first continental trophy since the 1984 UEFA Cup but also offers a rare high point in an otherwise disappointing Premier League season.
