Senegalese left-back Ismail Jakobs is set to miss further action for Galatasaray after suffering a relapse in his Achilles injury, extending his absence by an additional two to three weeks.
Jakobs, who joined the Turkish club from AS Monaco on loan last summer with a mandatory purchase option of €8 million, has endured a challenging spell in Istanbul, with persistent injuries preventing him from making a significant impact.
The 24-year-old last featured for Galatasaray at the end of January during the match against Konyaspor, but Achilles pain has sidelined him ever since.
According to reports in the Turkish press, his recovery has been hampered by a recurrence of the injury, further delaying his return to action.
Jakobs’ absence was particularly felt during Galatasaray’s recent derby against Fenerbahçe, where he was not included in Okan Buruk’s squad.
The defender’s ongoing injury concerns have become a cause for concern not only for his club but also for the Senegal national team, with the 2026 World Cup qualifiers set to take place in March.
“His repeated injuries are worrying, especially at such a crucial time in the season,” Turkish media reported, highlighting the impact of his prolonged spell on the sidelines.
Since arriving at Galatasaray, Jakobs has made just 16 appearances across all competitions, missing 23 matches due to injury setbacks.
The left-back’s continued absence leaves Galatasaray with limited options on the left flank as they compete in both domestic and European competitions.
Senegal coach Aliou Cissé will also be monitoring Jakobs’ situation closely, with the player a key part of the squad’s plans for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Jakobs’ fitness remains a pressing issue, with both Galatasaray and Senegal hoping for a swift recovery as they navigate critical fixtures in the coming weeks.
