Senegalese forward Idrissa Gueye continued his impressive form in Ligue 2, finding the net as FC Metz cruised to a 3-0 victory over Guingamp at the Stade du Roudourou on Saturday. The win strengthened Metz’s promotion push, extending their unbeaten run to 12 matches.
Heading into the clash, Metz faced a potential stumbling block against a Guingamp side also fighting for promotion.
However, Stéphane Le Mignan’s men handled the challenge with confidence, producing a clinical display that saw them claim all three points.
Metz in Control as Gueye Strikes Again
Metz set the tone early, maintaining defensive solidity while looking sharp in attack.
Their patience paid off in the 28th minute when Gauthier Hein converted a penalty to put them ahead.
As Guingamp pressed for an equalizer, Metz remained disciplined at the back, with defender Sadibou Sané playing a key role in shutting down the hosts’ advances.
With the match finely poised heading into the closing stages, Gueye made his mark once again.
The 20-year-old forward capitalized on a late opportunity, scoring his third goal in just six Ligue 2 appearances to give Metz a commanding 2-0 lead.
The visitors were not done yet, as captain Mathieu Udol added a third to seal the comprehensive victory.
Metz Strengthen Promotion Push
The result proved crucial for Metz in the Ligue 2 standings.
With Paris FC suffering a defeat elsewhere, Metz extended their lead over Guingamp to five points and climbed to second place, further solidifying their position in the race for promotion.
With their current momentum and Gueye’s growing influence in attack, Metz will be aiming to maintain their form as the season progresses.
