Racing Club Strasbourg captain Habib Diarra will miss Senegal’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers after suffering an injury during his club’s recent league match against AJ Auxerre.
The midfielder sustained a sprained left ankle on Sunday and is expected to be sidelined for three weeks, the club confirmed.
Diarra’s absence adds to Senegal’s growing list of injuries ahead of their crucial fixtures against Sudan and Togo later this month.
The Lions of Teranga are already without Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson and AS Monaco defender Ismaila Jakobs, both ruled out due to injuries.
Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw now faces a depleted squad as his team prepares to face Sudan on March 22 before taking on Togo on March 25.
The Lions currently sit second in Group B with eight points, trailing group leaders Sudan, who have amassed 10 points.
Despite the setbacks, Senegal will be aiming to strengthen their qualification hopes as they continue their bid for a place at the 2026 World Cup, set to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
