Senegalese striker Boulaye Dia could leave Lazio this winter, with Espanyol Barcelona reportedly showing interest in a move that would return him to familiar La Liga territory.
Since joining Lazio on loan from Salernitana in August 2024, Dia has struggled to make an impact. Injuries and inconsistent performances have limited his appearances and effectiveness, leaving the 26-year-old Senegal international seeking a fresh start.
According to Italian media cited by Wiw Sport, Espanyol are exploring the possibility of signing Dia on loan, a move that would bring him back to Spain after his successful stint at Villarreal, which included a Champions League semi-final appearance.
“His time in La Liga remains a benchmark that appeals to Espanyol’s management,” the report said.
The proposed transfer is likely to involve a complex administrative arrangement. Dia’s loan at Lazio would first be terminated, after which he would return to Salernitana, the club he is contracted to until 2027.
From there, he could be immediately loaned to Espanyol, creating a triangular agreement between the three clubs.
Financial details remain a key hurdle. Lazio holds an option to purchase Dia for €11.3 million, a figure that Salernitana considers a benchmark.
Whether the Roman club exercises this option or allows the forward to move depends on negotiations between all parties, with Dia’s own preference playing a central role.
A return to La Liga would mark a homecoming for Dia, who impressed in Spain before moving to Italy.
The winter transfer window offers an opportunity to revive his career, and Espanyol are said to be working quietly behind the scenes to finalize an agreement.
For the striker, this move could be crucial to re-establishing himself at club level and maintaining his position with the Senegal national team, particularly ahead of a crucial period in international competitions.
