Senegalese referee Sy Issa has been selected to officiate the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier between Madagascar and Ghana, scheduled for Monday, March 24, 2025, at the Grand Stade d’Al Hoceima in Morocco.

FIFA has entrusted the experienced official with overseeing this high-stakes encounter, as both teams aim to strengthen their positions in Group I.

An experienced official for a key clash

Sy Issa has established himself as one of Africa’s top referees, having officiated in various international competitions, including World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

His ability to manage intense matches and ensure fair play has made him a trusted choice for FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

His appointment underlines the significance of the Madagascar-Ghana clash, as both teams vie for a spot in the 2026 World Cup.

All-Senegalese refereeing team

Assisting Sy Issa on the pitch will be an entirely Senegalese officiating team.

Camara Djibril has been appointed as the first assistant referee, while Bangoura Nouha will serve as the second assistant.

The fourth official for the match will be Sy Elhadji Amadou, ensuring a cohesive and well-coordinated refereeing unit.

In addition to the match officials, FIFA has assigned Lim Kee Chong An Yan from Mauritius as the referee assessor, responsible for evaluating the officiating team’s performance.

Brown Ivan Gartor from Liberia will act as the match commissioner, overseeing administrative and disciplinary matters to ensure the game adheres to FIFA regulations.

Ghana’s must-win encounter

The Black Stars approach this fixture with high stakes, currently sitting second in Group I with nine points from four matches.

With three victories and one defeat, Ghana remains in contention for World Cup qualification, but securing three points against Madagascar is crucial to maintaining their momentum.

Madagascar, meanwhile, will be determined to capitalize on their opportunity, despite playing on neutral ground in Morocco due to stadium compliance issues in their home country.

The Bareas will seek to challenge a Ghanaian side eager to cement its position in the group standings.

With a well-experienced refereeing team in charge, the focus will be on ensuring a fair and competitive contest as both teams fight for a crucial victory on the road to the 2026 World Cup.
