Assane Diao has made an instant impression since his winter transfer to Como from Real Betis, quickly showcasing his talent in Serie A.
The 19-year-old Senegalese forward, who joined the Italian side in a €12 million move, has already netted five goals in two months, underlining his ability to adapt swiftly to his new environment.
Diao’s decision to sign for Como was not solely based on the opportunity to play in Italy’s top flight but also on the club’s ambitious vision.
“The Como project is interesting. Before, few people in Spain knew about it, but now people are talking about it,” he said.
Como, once considered a modest club, is gaining attention for its attacking style and forward-thinking management.
A Versatile Attacking Threat
The young forward’s ability to play across multiple attacking positions has been a key asset for Como. “I also like to play as a striker.
I’m a winger who likes to find space, but if necessary, I also like to stay close to the penalty area,” Diao explained.
His versatility and keen eye for goal make him a crucial component of the team’s attacking setup.
Adapting quickly to his new surroundings, he has embraced the challenge of Italian football and appreciates the country’s deep-rooted sporting and cultural history.
Thriving in a Competitive Environment
Despite his strong start, Diao remains aware of the competition for places at Como. The presence of players like Nico Paz, Patrick Cutrone, and Andrea Fadera creates a competitive dynamic that he believes will push him to improve.
“Competition allows you to progress and achieve your goals,” he noted. The young Senegalese international sees this as a valuable opportunity for growth, both personally and as part of a collective effort.
With Como’s project gaining traction, Diao is confident about the club’s future and is fully committed to contributing to its rise.
His passion, determination, and hunger for success position him as a key player to watch in Serie A in the coming months.
