Jaraaf of Dakar Maintain Lead in Senegalese Ligue 1 After Eventful 19th Round
Jaraaf of Dakar have managed to hold on to their top spot in the Senegalese Football League 1, despite not playing a match on the 19th day of fixtures. The “Green-Whites” benefitted from the surprise defeats of their closest rivals, including AS Pikine, who were beaten 2-0 by Casa Sport of Ziguinchor, and Union Sportive de Ouakam (USO), who fell 1-0 to Port.
Coach Abdoulaye Sarr’s side now sits atop the standings with 34 points, just one ahead of AS Pikine (33 points), while USO trails in third with 30 points. The defeats of AS Pikine and USO mean that Jaraaf can remain at the summit without even having to secure a victory.
In other action, Linguère were spared defeat by a last-minute penalty equaliser in their match against Suneor. Suneor had been leading 1-0 since the 16th minute, courtesy of Lamine Kâne’s goal. However, Linguère’s defender scored a penalty in the 90th minute to rescue a point for his side.
At the bottom of the table, Yeggo managed to secure their second victory of the season, defeating Touré Kunda 2-1. However, Yeggo still remains six points adrift of the first relegation spot, despite their hard-fought victory.
Meanwhile, NGB claimed an important 2-0 win over Port, pushing the latter down to the bottom of the table. In the Petite Côte derby, Stade de Mbour and Diambars de Saly played out a 1-1 draw. Stade de Mbour opened the scoring through Sorry Keita in the 35th minute, but Diambars equalised with Fine Bopp’s goal, marking his second consecutive goal after being last season’s top scorer in Ligue 1.
