Senegal Ligue 1 Pro Title Race Narrows as Jaraaf Nears Glory
With just three matchdays remaining in the Senegalese Ligue 1 Pro season, the title picture is beginning to take shape. League leaders Jaraaf Dakar are now just two victories—equivalent to six points—away from being officially crowned champions ahead of their closest challengers, AS Pikine.
Jaraaf, a club with a rich domestic legacy, has been dominant throughout the campaign, especially in attack. The team boasts the league’s best offensive record, having netted 32 goals in 23 matches—an average of 1.39 goals per game. Of those, 19 goals have come at home, with the remaining 13 scored on the road.
Their top scorer, Ibrahima Diop, has been a standout performer with 14 goals to his name. However, Diop missed action on Matchday 23 after being suspended by the Senegalese Football Federation. The ban followed Jaraaf’s refusal to release him for the national team’s international friendly against Colombia in Buenos Aires, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
Despite this setback, Jaraaf’s path to the title remains clear, though they face pressure from AS Pikine, who not only sit in second place but also boast the league’s stingiest defense—conceding just 11 goals all season. This defensive solidity contrasts starkly with DUC, the league’s most porous side, which has allowed 33 goals.
At the opposite end of the table, ASC Yeggo’s relegation to Ligue 2 was confirmed following the 23rd round. The team has endured a dismal season, managing just 11 goals—by far the league’s lowest tally—and failing to win a single away match. Olympique de Ngor shares that away-day misery, also yet to register an away victory.
A total of 291 goals have been scored over 161 matches so far in this campaign, yielding an average of 1.81 goals per game. Of those 161 matches, 101 have ended in victory—63 for home sides and 38 away—while 60 have been drawn.
One of the biggest surprises of Matchday 23 was Stade de Mbour’s first home defeat of the season, falling to AS Pikine. Until then, the club had maintained an unbeaten home record.
Meanwhile, Jaraaf continues to excel on their travels, collecting 19 points on the road, the best away record in the league. They are closely followed by Niarry Tally, who have earned 18 points away from home.
As the final rounds approach, all eyes are on Jaraaf. With the title within touching distance, the club is poised to cap off an impressive campaign—provided they can hold their nerve and finish the job.
