Senegalese centre-back Khadim Joher has signed for Iraqi Premier League club Duhok SC, bringing his brief spell in Romanian football to an end.

The 29-year-old, who previously represented Turkish side Alanyaspor, joins the Iraqi outfit after spending the past six months with UTA Arad in Romania’s Liga I.

His transfer was confirmed by Duhok SC on Friday, marking the latest chapter in a career that has taken him across multiple leagues and countries.

Joher, known for his aerial strength and composure in defence, will now be tasked with bolstering Duhok’s back line as the club looks to strengthen ahead of the upcoming campaign.

His experience in both European and African competitions is expected to be a valuable asset for the Iraqi side, which competes in one of the region’s most competitive domestic leagues.

The Senegalese international began his professional journey in his homeland before earning a move to Turkey’s Süper Lig with Alanyaspor, where he gained valuable top-flight experience.

His time in Europe also included the recent stint in Romania, where he contributed to UTA Arad’s defensive structure in a league noted for its physicality and tactical discipline.

While details of the contract have not been disclosed, Joher’s move to Iraq signals a fresh opportunity for the defender to take on a leadership role within a squad eager to make its mark in the 2025 season.

For Duhok SC, the signing represents both a defensive reinforcement and a statement of intent, as the club seeks to compete more aggressively in the league standings.

Joher’s arrival has been met with optimism among Duhok supporters, many of whom see the Senegalese as a player capable of commanding the back line and providing much-needed stability.

His blend of international experience and adaptability to different football cultures could prove crucial in a league where defensive organisation often determines success.

For the player himself, the move offers the chance to establish a consistent run of games in a starting role, something that was less assured during his short stay in Romania.

Having operated in diverse football environments, from the tactical rigor of European leagues to the intensity of African competitions, Joher is expected to adapt quickly to the demands of the Iraqi Premier League.

Duhok SC’s management has made no secret of its ambition to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season, with Joher’s signing being one of several targeted moves designed to boost performance across key positions.

The hope within the club is that his presence will not only improve defensive resilience but also inspire younger members of the squad.

As pre-season preparations continue, Joher will now focus on integrating into his new team and acclimating to the challenges of Iraqi football.

If his track record is any indication, the Senegalese defender has both the experience and determination to make an immediate impact. For Duhok SC, securing his signature is a step towards building a side capable of challenging the league’s established contenders.
