Senegalese defender Abdoulaye Seck is set to continue his career at Maccabi Haifa as the club moves to secure a contract extension for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations champion.
Returning from Senegal with a continental gold medal, Seck was welcomed back by Maccabi Haifa last Tuesday amid celebrations of the team’s international success.
However, the 33-year-old’s contract, which expires at the end of the current season, has placed the club’s management under pressure to act quickly to retain their defensive stalwart.
Seck joined Maccabi Haifa from Antwerp in September 2022 and has since become a key figure in the dressing room. His performances on and off the pitch have earned him the respect of teammates and staff, making him one of the most influential players at the club.
According to reports from DS Sports, Maccabi Haifa consider him “difficult to find a defender of comparable calibre,” underlining the urgency of contract negotiations.
The club intends to begin discussions over an extension soon, with both parties reportedly favouring a two-year deal. Standing 1.91 meters tall, Seck combines defensive reliability with a notable offensive contribution, scoring 14 goals and providing four assists in 133 appearances for the club. This season alone, he has already scored three times, demonstrating his continued value on both ends of the pitch.
Before turning his attention fully to contract talks, Seck is expected to reclaim his place in the starting lineup this Saturday against Ironi Tiberias.
His return to regular club action comes at a crucial moment as Maccabi Haifa look to maintain their domestic form while safeguarding the future of a player central to their plans.
For Seck, the celebrations of Senegal’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations triumph are giving way to a decisive chapter in his club career.
With negotiations on the horizon, the defender’s future appears increasingly likely to remain in Israel, where he has established himself as both a leader and a consistent performer.
