Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson thrilled to be at Bayern Munich where he feels ‘wanted’
Senegal international Nicolas Jackson says he finally feels “where I’m wanted” after completing a dramatic season-long loan switch from Chelsea to Bayern Munich.
The 24-year-old forward was officially unveiled in Bavaria on Friday, ending a tense transfer saga that almost collapsed before the window shut.
Speaking to reporters, Jackson admitted there were “tough times and difficult moments” in the days leading up to the deal.
“In football, there can be a time when you want a change. I spoke to Max Eberl and the coach and they really wanted me to be here and they loved me. And as a player, you want to be there where people want you to be,” he said.
Jackson had fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.
He travelled to Munich before deadline day to finalise his move, only to be recalled by Chelsea after Delap’s injury.
Through his agent, Jackson signalled he would not return to London, a stance that helped push through the agreement with the Bundesliga champions.
Bayern confirmed the signing hours after the transfer deadline passed, agreeing a reported €16.5 million loan fee — the highest in their history — and an obligation to buy for €65 million.
Uli Hoeness later told reporters that the trigger conditions for the purchase option were ‘purposely made too difficult to satisfy,’ noting: “We only need to pay it when he starts 40 games this season. He’ll never do that.”
Jackson described Hoeness as “a legend of the club” but stressed that triggering the clause is “not my decision, not my focus. My job is just to play on the pitch and score as many goals as I can and help the team win.”
He is expected to make his debut on Saturday when Bayern host Hamburg.
