Senegal have intensified their efforts to persuade Olympique Lyonnais academy prospect Adil Hamdani to represent the Lions of Teranga as competition grows over the teenager’s international future.

The highly rated left winger, who has emerged as one of Lyon’s promising young talents, is eligible to play for three nations.

Born in France to an Algerian father and a Senegalese mother, Hamdani has the option of representing France, Algeria or Senegal at senior international level.

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has been working for several weeks to convince the youngster to commit to the West African nation, continuing its strategy of recruiting talented dual-national players with Senegalese heritage.

The federation’s interest has gathered momentum following another impressive display from Hamdani, who caught the eye during Lyon’s friendly match against St. Gallen on Saturday.

His latest performance has further strengthened the belief that he could become an important player in the future.

Senegal have enjoyed success in convincing several dual-national footballers to choose the Lions of Teranga in recent years.

Players including Ibrahim Mbaye and Mamadou Sarr were persuaded to commit to Senegal after similar recruitment efforts, and the federation is now hoping Hamdani will follow the same path.

Rather than relying solely on official channels, the FSF has adopted a discreet approach in its pursuit of the young winger.

According to reports, representatives linked to Senegalese sports management agencies operating in France have been meeting with people close to the player to assess his situation.

The strategy mirrors the approach previously used during Senegal’s successful pursuit of Ibrahim Mbaye, with regular contact established before the player reached his international decision.

Hamdani currently represents France at Under-17 level, but reports suggest he is open to the possibility of playing for Senegal, the country of his mother’s birth.

At the same time, Algeria are yet to make contact with the player despite his eligibility through his father. That situation has prompted suggestions that the Algerian Football Federation may need to move quickly if it hopes to enter the race for one of Lyon’s brightest academy prospects.

With uncertainty surrounding the left-wing position in Algeria’s national team, Hamdani is viewed by some as a player who could become a valuable long-term addition.

However, time may prove decisive. Senegal have already invested considerable effort into presenting their sporting project to the young winger, while Algeria have yet to begin discussions.

Although no international decision has been made, Hamdani’s future remains one to watch closely. As one of Lyon’s emerging talents, the teenager finds himself at the centre of growing interest from multiple nations, with Senegal currently leading the race to secure his international allegiance.
