President of Senegal Bassirou Diomaye Faye has announced sumptuous rewards for the players and the technical team of the Taranga Lions following their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations triumph.
The Taranga Lions narrowly defeated hosts, Morocco in a chaotic final, held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium last Sunday.
Senegal walked-off the pitch after referee Jacques Ndala awarded a penalty kick to Morocco, minutes after disallowing a goal for the Taranga Lions.
But Sadio Mane urged his teammates to return to the pitch for the continuation of the match. Their return paid off, with Pape Gueye netting the match winner after Brahim Diaz had squandered the penalty kick.
Upon their return to Dakar, the team received a rousing welcome after clinching their second AFCON title in history in the North Africa country. Besides, a spectacular parade was held through the streets of Dakar.
Impressed with the achievement of the team, the president announced a whopping $6.2 million final prize and 68,000 m² of land for the team. Each player will receive $135,000 each and 1,500 m² plot on the Petite Côte.
In addition, the technical team of Senegal will cough $90,000 each and 1,000 m² plot, while the rest of the delegation takes home $35,000 each and 500 m².
For the first time, the Senegalese national team has triumphed over the host nation after five previous attempts without a victory against the home team.
Senegal now hold the second-longest unbeaten run in the Africa Cup of Nations with 18 matches, after Egypt, who hold the record with 24 matches.
