Senegal midfielder Cheikhou Kouyaté exits Amedspor by agreement
Cheikhou Kouyaté has left Turkish club Amedspor after both parties agreed to terminate his contract, bringing an early end to the Senegalese midfielder’s brief spell in Türkiye.
The decision was confirmed by Amedspor in a club statement, marking the conclusion of what has been a challenging period for the experienced player, who struggled for consistency and influence during his time with the second-tier side.
Amedspor are currently leading the Turkish second division and are firmly on course for promotion to the Süper Lig.
Despite the club’s strong collective performances, Kouyaté found it difficult to establish himself as a regular contributor, with his situation reportedly becoming increasingly uncertain in recent months.
The club announced the separation in clear terms, thanking the midfielder for his service while confirming that the move was reached amicably.
“We have terminated the contract of our professional player Cheikhou Kouyaté by mutual agreement.
We thank him for his efforts and commitment to the club and wish him every success for the rest of his career ,” Amedspor announced.
Kouyaté’s departure comes at a crucial stage of the season for Amedspor, who remain focused on securing promotion to Turkey’s top flight.
The club has continued to build momentum despite changes within the squad, prioritising stability and performance as the campaign reaches its decisive phase.
For Kouyaté, the end of his time in Türkiye closes another chapter in a long and varied career that has spanned several countries and top European leagues.
The former Senegal international is widely known for his years in English and Belgian football, where he built a reputation as a powerful and disciplined midfielder.
He previously played for Anderlecht in Belgium before moving to the Premier League, where he represented West Ham United and Crystal Palace.
During that period, he became a familiar figure in English football, earning praise for his work rate, tactical awareness and versatility.
While his stint at Amedspor did not unfold as hoped, Kouyaté leaves with significant experience at both club and international level.
His future destination has not been announced, but the mutual nature of the contract termination allows him the freedom to consider his next move.
As Amedspor continue their push towards the Süper Lig, attention now turns to maintaining their lead at the top of the table, while Kouyaté looks ahead to the next stage of his career after his Turkish adventure comes to an end.
