Senegal Lionesses ramp up preparations ahead of AWCON 2026 with intensive training camp

Senegal women’s national team, the Senegal Lionesses, are intensifying preparations ahead of the African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) 2026, with head coach Mame Moussa Cissé leading a focused training camp in Diamniadio.

The camp, which commenced on Monday, 23 February, will run until 7 March, providing the squad with a critical window to refine their tactical approach, improve technical cohesion, and build match fitness ahead of the continental tournament.

Senegal has been drawn into Group A alongside hosts Morocco women’s national football team, Kenya women’s national football team, and Algeria women’s national football team. With the group stage set to kick off on 17 March, Cissé and his players are working diligently to ensure they arrive in Morocco fully prepared to face tough opposition.

“The training camp in Dakar is crucial for us to fine-tune our strategy and get our players into top shape,” Cissé said. “We are focused on improving both technical skills and tactical understanding so that when we travel to Morocco, we are ready to compete at the highest level.”

The AWCON 2026 will run from 17 March to 3 April, and the Senegal Lionesses hope that the rigorous pre-tournament camp will provide the foundation for a strong showing, aiming to advance deep into the competition while showcasing the growing strength of women’s football in the country.

The camp concludes on 7 March, after which the team will prepare for departure to Morocco, bringing with them lessons learned from intense training sessions designed to sharpen every aspect of their game.
