Senegalese football mourns the death of Lamine Mboup

Senegalese football has lost one of its notable figures, with the death of former international Lamine Mboup, confirmed by the Senegalese Football Federation on 10 March 2026.

Mboup, who passed away in Dakar, had a distinguished career as a striker, representing Jeanne d’Arc de Dakar before continuing his professional journey abroad with Al Masry SC in Egypt and FC Martigues in France.

Born into a footballing family, he was the son of Mamadou Issa Mboup, former president of Jeanne d’Arc de Dakar, and grew up immersed in the sport.

His passion for football extended beyond his playing career, culminating in his role as coach of the Senegal national futsal team, where he guided the next generation of talent.

The Senegalese Football Federation expressed its condolences in an official statement: it offered “sincere condolences to his family and to the entire Senegalese football family.”

A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday at 14:00 local time at the Idrissa Pouye Hospital in Grand Yoff, where friends, family, and football colleagues will pay tribute to his legacy.

Mboup’s influence on Senegalese football was felt both on and off the pitch. His dedication to the sport, from his early playing days through to coaching, reflected a lifelong commitment to nurturing football in his country. His passing marks the end of an era for those who admired his contributions as a player and mentor.

Senegalese football now mourns the loss of a figure whose career and life were intertwined with the development and growth of the game nationally, leaving a lasting imprint on future generations.
