The Senegalese government has officially formalized the two-year contract for Joseph Koto and his technical staff. The signing ceremony, attended by the Senegalese Minister of Sports, El Hadj Malick Gackou, and the president of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), Me Augustin Senghor, took place with clear objectives outlined for the new coaching team.
Joseph Koto and his group aim to surpass the Ivorian hurdle in the final round of qualifiers, secure a spot in the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations, and qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The contract signing occurred after the French technician, Pierre Lechante, declined the opportunity to lead the Lions once again.
Joseph Koto, succeeding Amara Traoré, who was unable to advance past the first round in the last African Cup of Nations, expressed readiness to commit to the assigned objectives, emphasizing that work had already begun even before the formal signing of the contract. He is assisted by Karim Sega Diouf, and his former deputy Aliou Cissé has taken over as the coach of the Olympic team.
This ceremony also marked the appointment of Mayacine Mar as the technical director. With a coaching outfit in place, Joseph Koto is set to face the formidable Ivory Coast team in the CAN 2013 qualifiers for his first match. Having previously coached the team against Liberia in Dakar during the World Cup qualifiers, Koto is now prepared to lead Senegal towards its footballing objectives.
