Senegal international Dion Lopy sidelined with adductor injury
Almería midfielder Dion Lopy will be unavailable for the next two matches after sustaining an adductor injury in the weekend victory over Sporting Gijón.
The 23-year-old was forced off during the 2-1 win on Saturday and subsequent medical tests confirmed a grade one strain, the club announced.
Lopy has been a central figure in coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia’s—known as Rubi—consistent 4-2-3-1 formation this season.
He has made five league appearances and scored once, emerging as a reliable option in the middle of the park.
The Senegal international, formerly of Stade de Reims, now faces a short spell on the sidelines.
While the injury is not regarded as severe, Almería have confirmed he will sit out the upcoming trips to Las Palmas on 27 September and Deportivo La Coruña on 4 October.
The setback comes at a time when Rubi has leaned heavily on Lopy’s presence in midfield to provide balance between defence and attack.
His absence will force tactical adjustments, though the club has stressed that the recovery timeline remains encouraging.
If his rehabilitation progresses smoothly, and should he not be summoned for international duty during the forthcoming break, Lopy is expected to return in time for Almería’s home encounter with Real Zaragoza on 11 October.
Lopy’s short stint in Spain has already underlined his importance to the team.
His dynamism and ability to transition play have been evident since his arrival, and the club will hope his return coincides with a continued push for consistency in the league campaign.
Although missing two matches is a blow, Almería will be reassured by the fact that the injury is minor and unlikely to keep him out for a prolonged period.
The focus now shifts to managing his recovery carefully to ensure he regains full fitness without risk of aggravation.
For Lopy, the next weeks will be about patience and preparation, with both player and club eager to see him back in action at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos.
